November 11, the date of Old Samhain, became Armistice Day in 1918 to mark the ending of World War I. In England, France, and Canada, the day commemorates those who died in both World War I and II. In 1954 the United States changed the name to Veterans’ Day, to commemorate those who have served in the armed forces during all the country’s wars. Flowers are put on the graves of relatives and prayers are said. The war dead are honored. There is usually a parade in the city center of towns and televison broadcasts the National War Memorial Parade. (36)
