Saint Nicholas History: Saint Nicholas is a Byzantine Saint born in Patara (now Turkey) in 280 A.D. He became a priest at age 19 and Bishop of Myra in 325 A.D. Saint Nicholas was stripped, tortured and jailed under Emperor Diocletian for refusing to accept the divine heritage of kings. When Constantine became emperor Saint Nicholas was reinstated as Bishop of Myra. Constantine set December 6th as St. Nicholas’ official nameday and a church was built in his honor. Saint Nicholas died in 342 A.D. and was buried in Myra. He came back after death to return a kidnapped Myra child to his family. (1, 2)
